The goal of the I AM My Sister's Keeper Movement is to find ways to work together to address one of the major health issues that threaten our sisters today --- HIV/AIDS --- helping us to understand: what we know about HIV/AIDS, why we should care about HIV/AIDS, and what we can do about HIV/AIDS.
Our mission is to show the world that together we can stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in our communities. To show the world that by standing together, we fundamentally understand that we are "Our Sister's Keeper."
From our humble beginnings as a community collaborative initiatives of Southside Church Youth, Women, and Health/HIV Ministries committed to preventing the spread of HIV in our communities, The My Sister's Keeper Movement Today, works with African American adolescents and adult women and their allies --- working together in churches, schools, community based organizations --- supporting any and all efforts to keep the community informed about the facts relating to HIV/AIDS --- and fostering a shared commitment to educating other African American women about why they should and how the could take action to prevent new infections in their communities --- providing private testing --- and linking those living with the virus to healthcare to ensure better health outcomes for them and their families.
Initial partner churches include: Holy Angel’s Catholic Church, Upright Baptist Church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Apostolic Faith Church, Fellowship Baptist Church, New Life Covenant Church, Body of Christ Deliverance Temple, Monument of Faith, Deliverance Through Holiness and Resurrection House Baptist Church, New Community Church.
